Chapter 39 - The Last Name

That evening, Lily asked a question.
“Dad?”
“Yes?”
“Did Continuity really end?”
Daniel looked toward the sunset.
“The organization did.”
“That isn't what I asked.”
He smiled.
“No.”
Lily nodded.
“I knew it.”
Anna sat beside them.
“There will always be people who try to control others.”
Daniel looked at his daughter.
“But they don't get to control us.”
Lily smiled.
Then she handed him another document.
“What is this?”
“A list.”
Daniel opened it.
Names.
Organizations.
Countries.
People who had been connected to Continuity but had never been prosecuted.
Daniel looked at Lily.
“Where did you get this?”
“From the archive.”
“I thought the archive was destroyed.”
“It was.”
She smiled.
“Except I copied one file.”
Daniel stared.
Anna looked worried.
“What file?”
Lily pointed to the final name.
Daniel read it.
His expression changed.
The name belonged to someone he knew.
Someone who had helped them.
Someone they had trusted.
Anna whispered:
“No.”
Lily looked at them.
“He was never arrested.”
Daniel closed the file.
For a moment, the old fear returned.
Then he smiled.
“Then we do this differently.”
Anna looked at him.
“How?”
Daniel took Lily's hand.
“We let the law handle it.”

He closed the folder.
“No more secrets.”
