Chapter 13 - THE FALL OF THE UNTOUCHABLE SONS

For the first time since Lily’s attack, Daniel stopped chasing the newest mystery.
That decision changed everything.
Vivian expected him to pursue Ghost Actual Two.
Marcus expected him to demand answers.
Eleanor expected him to disappear into old Sentinel history.
Instead Daniel returned to the beginning.
Lily.
Ethan.
Brandon.
Tyler.
The assault.
The cover-up.
The institutions that believed power could erase blood from a floor.
Torres met him outside the university building.
“You’re not following the Ghost node?”
“No.”
She raised an eyebrow.
“Growth.”
Daniel almost smiled.
“We have enough to prosecute the attack.”
“Yes.”
“Then do it.”
Torres nodded.
“Forensics confirmed Ethan Cole’s DNA beneath Lily’s fingernails.”
Daniel closed his eyes briefly.
Proof.
“Brandon’s phone?”
“Recovered deleted video.”
Daniel’s expression hardened.
“How bad?”
“Bad.”
“Does it show the assault?”
“Part.”
“Enough?”
“Yes.”
“Tyler?”
“Cooperating.”
“President Ross?”
“In custody.”
“Charles Cole?”
“Financial records tie him to payments used to pressure campus police.”
“Hale?”
“His chief of staff contacted the district attorney’s office the morning after Lily’s hospitalization.”
“Whitmore?”
“Still missing.”
Daniel looked toward the hospital in the distance.
“File everything.”
Torres studied him.
“You realize these families will fight.”
“Good.”
She almost smiled.
“They have money.”
“So does the government.”
“They have connections.”
“So do you.”
Torres laughed.
“I wondered when you’d become likable.”
“I’m not.”
“True.”
By afternoon the first arrests became public.
Ethan Cole was taken from his family’s penthouse.
He screamed at agents.
Demanded his father.
Threatened lawsuits.
News cameras caught the moment his handcuffs closed.
Brandon Hale surrendered through a side entrance at the federal courthouse.
His father appeared before cameras insisting his son was innocent.
Then reporters revealed Brandon’s recovered video.
Public sentiment changed within hours.
The video was not released in full out of respect for Lily.
But prosecutors confirmed it showed Brandon filming while Ethan assaulted her.
Tyler Whitmore entered a cooperation agreement contingent on truthful testimony.
His father’s disappearance became national news.
Nathaniel Ross was charged with obstruction, conspiracy, kidnapping-related offenses connected to Maya, evidence destruction, and interference with the investigation.
Hospital CEO Lauren Briggs resigned after federal warrants uncovered communication with Continuity-linked attorneys.
Charles Cole was charged with obstruction and conspiracy after records showed he arranged legal pressure to suppress campus and police evidence.
Graham Hale remained under investigation.
For once, powerful surnames did not stop the machinery.
Daniel watched from Lily’s room.
She watched too.
Muted television.
Ethan being led toward a vehicle.
Lily stared at the screen.
Daniel asked softly, “Enough?”
She shook her head.
He understood.
Arrest was not accountability.
Not yet.
But it was a beginning.
Maya arrived that evening under federal protection.
When she entered Lily’s room, both young women cried.
Daniel quietly stepped outside.
He gave them privacy.
Reed joined him.
“Tyler confessed.”
“I know.”
“Ethan?”
“Charged.”
Reed leaned against the wall.
“You could have gone after Vivian.”
“Yes.”
“But didn’t.”
Daniel looked through the glass at Lily and Maya.
“This is why Anna didn’t want me involved.”
“What?”
“I always believed the most dangerous threat deserved attention first.”
Reed waited.
Daniel continued.
“She understood something I didn’t.”
“What?”
“The person bleeding in front of you deserves attention first.”
Reed nodded.
“Anna taught us all things.”
Daniel looked at him.
“You’re still not forgiven.”
“I know.”
“But you’re still here.”
“I know.”
Daniel sighed.
“That’s irritating.”
“Also know.”
Inside the room, Lily was writing something.
Maya laughed through tears.
The sound reached Daniel through the glass.
It was the first time he had heard his daughter create anything resembling joy since the attack.
For several minutes, that was enough.
Then Torres approached.
“We found Robert Whitmore.”
“Alive?”
“Yes.”
“Where?”
“Private airfield in Maryland.”
“Trying to flee?”
“No.”
Daniel looked at her.
“He was waiting for us.”
That was unexpected.
Torres continued.
“He says he will testify.”
“Against?”
“Vivian Ross.”
Daniel’s eyes narrowed.
“Why?”
“He claims she ordered the hospital termination attempt.”
“We know A.V. credentials did.”
“He says Vivian physically gave the order.”
“Proof?”
“He has recordings.”
Daniel looked toward Lily.
“Why come forward now?”
Torres’s expression changed.
“Because he says Vivian kidnapped his wife.”
Daniel stopped.
“When?”
“Three years ago.”
“People think she’s dead.”
“Yes.”
“Another one.”
“Apparently.”
Daniel muttered.
“Does anyone in this conspiracy actually die?”
Torres continued.
“Robert says Continuity keeps certain people legally dead.”
“For leverage.”
“Or labor.”
Daniel turned.
“What?”
“He says there are facilities.”
“What kind?”
“Secure residential sites.”
“Prisons?”
“He called them preservation houses.”
Daniel felt cold.
“Rachel.”
Torres nodded.
“Possibly where Rachel Quinn was held.”
“Who else?”
“He doesn’t know.”
Daniel thought of all the false deaths.
Marcus.
Eleanor.
Rachel.
Maybe others.
“Where is Robert’s wife?”
“He claims he doesn’t know.”
“Then what use are his recordings?”
“They identify a central Continuity storage site.”
Daniel’s pulse changed.
“Location?”
“Virginia.”
“Fort Raven?”
“No.”
Torres handed him a photograph.
A beautiful private estate surrounded by forest.
White stone mansion.
High walls.
Officially owned by a psychiatric research foundation.
Daniel recognized the architecture from an old Sentinel photograph.
“Bellweather.”
Reed went pale.
Daniel looked at him.
“You know it.”
Reed whispered.
“We all do.”
Torres frowned.
“What is Bellweather?”
Daniel stared at the photograph.
“Where Sentinel taught people how to disappear.”
That night, prosecutors played Brandon’s recovered video for Daniel at his request.
He watched once.
No more.
Ethan cornering Lily.
Brandon laughing.
Tyler blocking Maya.
Lily refusing to reveal the drive.
Ethan striking her.
Again.
Again.
Marcus entering.
Shouting.
Ethan turning.
Marcus hitting Ethan.
Lily pulling the fire alarm.
Chaos.
Then one moment Daniel had not expected.
Before Lily escaped, Marcus grabbed her shoulders and shouted directly into her face.
The audio was damaged but recoverable.
Technicians amplified it.
Marcus said:
“Go to Bellweather. Find Rachel’s room. Anna left the truth there.”
Daniel paused the video.
Rachel’s room.
Anna had been at Bellweather.
Torres watched him.
“When?”
Daniel whispered.
“I don’t know.”
His encrypted phone buzzed.
Ghost Actual Two again.
