Chapter 24 - The Real Target
Eleanor explained everything.
Continuity had planned to take Lily after the university attack.
The assault had been deliberately allowed to happen.
Ethan and the others were not the masterminds.
They were bait.
Daniel stared.
“Bait for what?”
“For you.”
Eleanor explained that Continuity needed Daniel to activate a dormant protocol buried inside his own memory.
The attack was designed to force him back into the Sentinel system.
When Lily survived, the protocol activated.
Daniel's encrypted device.
His nightmares.
The flashes of memory.
Everything had been connected.
Anna had known.
Marcus had known.
Eleanor had known.
Everyone except him.
Daniel looked at Anna.
“You let them use me.”
Anna shook her head.
“No.”
“I was the bait.”
“You were the weapon.”
Silence.
Daniel finally understood.
The reason Continuity feared him was not because of what he knew.
It was because of what he could unlock.
Eleanor handed him a key.
“Your father hid the final Sentinel archive.”
“Where?”
“In the one place Continuity never searched.”
Daniel looked at Lily's photograph.
“Where?”
