Chapter 34 - The Choice of the Father
Victor activated the system.
Lily's name appeared.
A countdown began.
00:10:00.
Claire panicked.
“They're going to erase her memory.”
Daniel looked at the system.
“Can you stop it?”
“Not from here.”
Marcus pointed toward a secondary terminal.
“The archive can override it.”
Lily shook her head.
“No.”
Daniel turned.
“What?”
“If we override the system, it will erase every memory stored inside me.”
Daniel understood.
She would survive.
But lose everything.
Her mother.
Her father.
Her childhood.
Him.
“No.”
Lily stepped forward.
“Dad.”
“No.”
“You taught me to fight.”
“I taught you to live.”
“Then let me choose.”
Daniel couldn't answer.
Anna touched his shoulder.
“We can't choose for her.”
The countdown continued.
Five minutes.
Daniel looked at Lily.
She smiled through tears.
“I know who you are.”
She touched his face.
“That's enough.”
Daniel broke.
He refused to sacrifice her.
Instead, he turned toward Claire.
“Find another way.”
Claire stared at him.
“There isn't one.”
