Chapter 39 - THE MUSIC BOX

One year after Melissa returned, Noah found the old music box.
He carried it downstairs.
“Mommy.”
Melissa looked up.
“What is it?”
“The old song.”
She opened it.
The melody played.
For years, the song had represented fear.
Secrets.
Manipulation.
Now Noah smiled.
“I like it.”
Melissa smiled.
“So do I.”
Daniel watched them.
The song no longer belonged to Bellhaven.
It belonged to them.
He took the music box and removed the hidden memory card.
For a moment, everyone expected another secret.
Another name.
Another threat.
Instead, Daniel placed it into the fireplace.
The card burned.
Melissa watched silently.
“Why?”
Daniel answered:
“Because we don't need proof anymore.”
Sarah smiled.
“That is the first truly free thing you've done.”
Daniel laughed.
“Maybe.”
Noah hugged Melissa.
May you like
The music continued.
And for once, nobody was afraid of what might be hidden inside it.
