Chapter 30 - THE LIST

The list contained forty-three names.

Doctors.

Lawyers.

Researchers.

Government contractors.

Private investigators.

Even one sitting judge.

Daniel stared at the names.

Some were already dead.

Others were still powerful.

But one name shocked him.

Henry Carter.

Daniel turned toward his father.

“You were on the list.”

Henry looked at the paper.

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Henry swallowed.

“Because I helped create the original safeguards.”

Daniel stared.

“You worked with them?”

“To stop them.”

Henry explained that Bellhaven began as a legitimate program to help children with traumatic memory disorders.

Jonathan corrupted it.

Henry tried to expose him.

But Jonathan threatened Daniel.

So Henry stayed silent.

“I thought protecting you meant hiding the truth.”

Daniel's eyes filled with anger.

“You taught me that silence was protection.”

Henry lowered his head.

“I was wrong.”

Daniel walked away.

Then Melissa took his hand.

“We can break the cycle.”

Daniel looked at her.

May you like

“How?”

“By telling the truth.”
