Chapter 20 - THE BROTHER WHO DIED

Daniel returned to the safe house with the photograph.
Henry was awake.
Daniel placed it in front of him.
“Who is Edward?”
Henry stared at the picture.
His face collapsed.
“Where did you get that?”
“Margaret.”
Henry closed his eyes.
“I buried him.”
“You buried someone else.”
Henry looked at Daniel.
“Edward was my brother.”
Daniel sat beside him.
“Why did you tell me he never existed?”
“Because he disappeared.”
“When?”
“After Bellhaven.”
Henry explained that Edward had initially opposed the program.
But after their father died, Edward became obsessed with proving Bellhaven could be profitable.
He disappeared for several years.
Then Jonathan Vale appeared.
A successful businessman.
A philanthropist.
A friend.
Henry had recognized him immediately.
But he said nothing.
“Why?”
“Because Edward threatened you.”
Daniel's face hardened.
“What did he threaten?”
“Your life.”
Henry looked toward Noah's room.
“And later, Noah's.”
Daniel stood.
“So Jonathan isn't just connected to Bellhaven.”
“No.”
Henry's voice trembled.
“He built the continuation.”
“Why?”
Henry whispered:
“Because he believes Bellhaven belongs to our family.”
Daniel stared at him.
“What does he want?”
Henry looked terrified.
“The archive.”
Daniel's phone rang.
Unknown number.
He answered.
Jonathan spoke.
“Now you know.”
Daniel's jaw tightened.
“Where are you?”
“Closer than you think.”
“Leave my family alone.”
Jonathan laughed.
“I don't want your family.”
May you like
A pause.
“I want what your father hid beneath it.”
