Chapter 38 - THE FAMILY TABLE

They had dinner together.

Four generations of secrets sat around one table.

Sarah told stories.

Henry cried.

Melissa laughed.

Daniel listened.

Noah asked endless questions.

Nobody mentioned Bellhaven.

Not that night.

They simply ate.

Talked.

Laughed.

And lived.

After dinner, Daniel stepped outside.

Melissa joined him.

“You okay?”

He nodded.

“I thought finding the truth would feel different.”

“How?”

“I thought everything would suddenly make sense.”

Melissa smiled.

“Doesn't?”

“No.”

He looked through the window.

“But it feels real.”

Melissa leaned against him.

“That may be better.”

Daniel nodded.

For years, he had wanted answers.

Now he wanted ordinary days.

Breakfast.

School runs.

Family dinners.

Arguments about coffee.

May you like

Christmas mornings.

A life nobody else controlled.
