Chapter 32 - THE MAN WHO APOLOGIZED

Jonathan requested one final meeting.
Daniel almost refused.
But Melissa agreed.
They met inside a federal prison.
Jonathan looked older.
Smaller.
Without power, he was simply a man.
“You won,” he said.
Daniel shook his head.
“No.”
Jonathan frowned.
“You destroyed everything.”
“We exposed it.”
Jonathan looked at Melissa.
“You were always difficult.”
Melissa smiled.
“I was your mistake.”
Jonathan looked toward Daniel.
“Your father knew.”
Daniel said nothing.
“Your mother knew.”
Still nothing.
“Everyone knew something.”
Daniel leaned forward.
“And now everyone knows everything.”
Jonathan smiled bitterly.
“You think truth fixes everything?”
“No.”
Daniel stood.
“But it gives people a chance to fix what happened.”
Jonathan looked down.
For the first time, he seemed defeated.
“I'm sorry.”
Daniel stopped.
He turned.
“I don't forgive you.”
Jonathan nodded.
May you like
“I didn't expect you to.”
Daniel walked away.
