Chapter 34 - THE WOMAN WHO HELPED THEM
Margaret received a reduced sentence for cooperating.
Before leaving federal custody, she asked to see Melissa.
Melissa agreed.
Margaret entered the room.
“I owe you an apology.”
Melissa looked at her.
“You do.”
Margaret nodded.
“I helped you disappear.”
“You also helped them find me.”
“I was afraid.”
Melissa's expression softened slightly.
“So was I.”
Margaret looked at Daniel.
“I should have told you the truth years ago.”
Daniel answered:
“Yes.”
“I can't change it.”
“No.”
“But I can tell you one thing.”
She looked at Noah.
“Your son was never the problem.”
Melissa nodded.
“He was the reason we survived.”
Margaret smiled sadly.
“I know.”
She left.
Melissa watched the door close.
Some people could be forgiven.
