Chapter 41 - The Mercer Foundation Changes Its NameAdrian dissolved the old Mercer Family Foundation.
In its place came the Julianne and Donna Justice Fund.
Emma insisted Donna's name appear equally.
“Mom had people searching for her eventually,” Emma said. “Donna didn't.”
The foundation funded environmental testing in low-income schools, legal aid for whistleblowers, shelters for women, and emergency support for foster youth.
At the launch, Adrian avoided the stage.
Emma pulled him up anyway.
“You paid for half of this.”
“Actually more than half.”
“Don't ruin the moment.”
The audience laughed.
Emma spoke briefly.
“My mother believed evidence mattered. Donna Pike's life showed what happens when society decides some people are easier to lose than others.”
She looked toward Adrian.
“And Miriam Shaw proved ordinary people can stop powerful ones simply by refusing to obey the wrong order.”
There were no portraits of wealthy founders behind them.
Only three photographs.
Julianne.
Donna.
Miriam.
