Chapter 22 - The ShipyardThe old Mercer shipyard had been abandoned for fifteen years.

Emma entered through a broken gate.

Graham stood beneath a warehouse light.

He held a folder.

“You brought police.”

Emma stopped.

“You expected me not to?”

Graham smiled.

“No. I expected Adrian to.”

He dropped the folder.

Empty pages scattered across the floor.

A distraction.

A vehicle engine roared behind the warehouse.

Graham ran.

Officers moved in.

Emma heard shouting.

Then a crash.

Graham's car struck a barrier before reaching the road.

Police arrested him.

But page 47 was not in his possession.

During questioning, Graham finally broke.

He admitted arranging the substitute body.

Admitted bribing Henry Cole.

Admitted helping falsify Julianne's death certificate.

But he denied ordering the crash.

“Leonard wanted Julianne frightened,” he said.

“Not dead.”

Investigators asked who wanted her dead.

Graham stared at the table.

Then said:

“You've been looking at the wrong Mercer.”

Adrian felt cold.

“What does that mean?”

May you like

Graham smiled sadly.

“Ask your mother.”
