Chapter 36 - The First Owner
Eva’s accounts vanished first.
Her passport became invalid.
Her employment record disappeared.
Every document using Eva Vale or Evelyn Mercer returned an error.
Rachel watched from behind the sealed doors.
“The system chose the weakest identity.”
Eva struck the glass with her palm.
“You built me to be disposable.”
“I built you to continue the name.”
Mia searched the manual controls.
“If Evelyn Mercer is an identity, not a person, we need the original creation record.”
Adrian’s voice came through a hidden speaker.
“There is a paper registry beneath the dealership. Digital records cannot alter it.”
Kyle interrupted.
“The dealership is locked.”
“Then open it,” Mia replied.
He laughed.
“You still think refusal is power.”
“It brought down my family.”
“And created this.”
Mia looked at the women beside her.
“No. People who wanted control created this.”
Nora used Celia’s bracelet to unlock the emergency shutters.
Reed’s team entered from the east stairwell.
Kyle escaped through the freight elevator carrying the glass Ownership Title.
Jonathan followed him.
Whether he was pursuing Kyle or helping him remained unclear.
Rachel disappeared during the evacuation.
Adrian emerged from behind the glass and handed Mia an old iron key.
“The paper registry is behind a door beneath the dealership vault.”
“Why did you not show us before?”
“Because the registry reveals which daughter was born first.”
Evelyn took the key from him.
“No.”
Adrian looked at her.
“You knew.”
“I knew the record existed.”
“You changed the bracelets, but you could not change the delivery-room ledger.”
Eva’s erased identity had already caused an alert with federal officers. The system now classified her as an unknown person using fraudulent documents.
Mia held out her hand.
“Stay beside me.”
Eva looked at it.
“You still don’t know whether I am your sister.”
“I know someone tried to erase you.”
Eva accepted her hand.
They returned to the dealership together.
Beneath the original vault, the iron key opened a narrow door.
