Chapter 21 - Calvin’s Offer
Calvin contacted Detective Ortiz from a motel outside Richmond.
He offered to surrender in exchange for protection.
Ryan had threatened him.
The meeting took place in a secured interview room.
Calvin arrived carrying a waterproof document case.
Inside were financial ledgers, recorded conversations and contracts showing that Ryan had fixed amateur matches to increase betting interest around selected fighters.
Calvin claimed Ryan controlled everything.
Detective Ortiz was not impressed.
“You created the companies,” she said. “You moved the money.”
“I did what he ordered.”
“You were his manager, not his prisoner.”
Calvin looked toward the mirrored wall.
“I can testify.”
“You can tell the truth. Prosecutors will decide what that is worth.”
One recording captured Ryan discussing Claire.
He told Calvin to frighten her but avoid leaving proof.
Elias heard the recording in a private meeting.
His hands closed into fists.
Claire noticed.
“You always tell me anger can’t control the next decision.”
Elias slowly opened his hands.
“You’ve been listening.”
“More than you think.”
Calvin also revealed Ryan’s final plan.
During the upcoming championship event at Vanguard, Ryan intended to present manufactured evidence accusing Claire of stealing from the gym.
The event was four days away.
