Chapter 14 - The Woman Who Cleaned the Gym

Vanguard’s nighttime cleaner, Rosa Delgado, contacted Claire through a newly created email address.
Rosa had worked at the gym for four years. Most athletes barely noticed her.
That was why she saw everything.
She saw employees moving boxes of documents after midnight.
She saw Ryan bringing frightened fighters into Calvin’s office.
She saw medical supplies discarded after injuries that were never officially recorded.
Rosa agreed to meet Claire and Detective Ortiz at a quiet library.
She carried a grocery bag filled with copied papers.
“I started keeping them after Marcus,” Rosa said.
“Why?” Claire asked.
“Because everyone said the cameras showed nothing. But I cleaned blood from the mat.”
Rosa’s voice remained steady, though her hands shook.
She had also photographed a locked storage room beneath the gym.
The room contained unregistered medication, unsigned contracts and boxes labeled with the names of athletes.
One box carried Claire’s name.
Elias studied the photograph.
“Did Ryan ever see you taking pictures?”
“I don’t think so.”
Rosa looked toward the library entrance.
“But yesterday, Calvin asked why I spend so much time near the storage room.”
Detective Ortiz arranged protection for her.
Before leaving, Rosa looked at Claire.
“Your father came when you called.”
May you like
Claire nodded.
“Some of those fighters have nobody to call.”
