Chapter 10 - Noah’s Decision

Noah received Claire’s message while sitting in his car outside the gym.
She did not accuse him.
She wrote only:
I know you may have seen what happened to Marcus. You are not responsible for Ryan’s choices. But you may be able to stop this from happening again.
Noah read the message five times.
Ryan had given him his first professional opportunity. He had also pressured Noah to fight while injured, withheld money and threatened to ruin his career.
Noah had filmed the Marcus incident because he feared the security footage would disappear.
Then he had hidden the phone.
He drove to Elias’s house after midnight.
Claire opened the door.
Noah held out an old red coaching jacket. A phone was sewn into the lining.
“I didn’t know who I could trust,” he said.
Elias stepped aside.
“You can come in.”
Noah remained on the porch.
“If Ryan finds out, I’ll never fight professionally again.”
Claire looked at him.
“I thought leaving Ryan would destroy my life too.”
“Did it?”
“No. It showed me how much of my life he had already taken.”
Noah entered.
The phone contained the missing forty seconds.
May you like
It also contained something worse.
Calvin Price instructing staff to lie before the ambulance arrived.
