Chapter 6 - Behind the Curtain

After Adrian canceled the wedding, silence spread through the bridal venue.
Vanessa tried denial first.
“She is exaggerating,” she said. “She has wanted to ruin us from the beginning.”
Adrian did not answer.
She tried tears.
“I am under pressure. Every bride loses control. You cannot destroy our future over one terrible moment.”
Adrian looked toward Elena, who sat pale but steady in the chair.
“This was not one moment.”
Daniel opened the leather folder.
He listed the false consulting invoices, the villa deposit, the private shopping charges, and the luxury hotel rooms booked for people unrelated to the ceremony.
Raymond interrupted.
“These were family arrangements. Adrian approved generosity.”
“I approved wedding expenses,” Adrian said. “Not your lifestyle.”
Celeste stepped forward.
“You will humiliate our daughter over accounting details?”
“No,” Adrian replied. “The accounting explains the manipulation. Her treatment of my mother explains the decision.”
Vanessa’s face hardened.
“You promised to protect me.”
“I promised to build a life with the person you pretended to be.”
Vanessa looked around and realized no performance could restore her control.
She turned toward Elena.
“Tell him this is a misunderstanding.”
Elena met her gaze.
“For months, you depended on my silence. Do not ask me to use it now.”
The security officers escorted Vanessa toward a private exit. Her parents followed, still protesting.

The ceremony hall remained full.
But there would be no wedding.
