Chapter 39 - The Last Heir

Victor held Emily's arm.

Ryan smiled.

“You finally see it.”

Margaret stared.

“You staged everything.”

“Not everything.”

Victor stepped forward.

“The contract is still valid.”

Claire moved beside Margaret.

“No.”

Victor looked at her.

“You are the rightful heir.”

Claire shook her head.

“I'm not.”

Victor smiled.

“Then prove it.”

Margaret suddenly understood.

The DNA test.

The fake records.

The photographs.

The entire conspiracy had one purpose.

To make Claire publicly claim the estate.

Then Victor could challenge her identity.

And the property would revert to the Hayes trust.

Margaret looked at Claire.

“Don't sign anything.”

Victor's smile disappeared.

Ryan raised his gun.

“Then Emily dies.”

Margaret stepped forward.

“You want the estate?”

“Yes.”

“You want Claire?”

“Yes.”

Margaret looked at Arthur.

Then at Claire.

Then at Emily.

She made her decision.

“I'll give you everything.”

Victor smiled.

“Wise woman.”

Margaret continued:

“On one condition.”

Victor's smile faded.

“You will testify against the Hayes network.”

Silence.

Then police lights appeared across the lake.

Victor looked around.

Margaret smiled.

“You forgot something.”

May you like

Claire raised her phone.

“The entire conversation was recorded.”
