Chapter 25 - The House Turns Against Them
The mansion's security system suddenly activated.
Every light went out.
The doors locked.
Margaret heard the front gate slam.
Arthur looked toward the windows.
“They're surrounding the house.”
Claire checked her weapon.
“We need to leave.”
Margaret shook her head.
“No.”
Claire stared.
“What?”
“This is my house.”
Arthur understood.
Margaret walked toward the library.
“We have evidence here.”
Claire followed.
“Evidence won't matter if we're dead.”
Margaret stopped.
“Then help me make sure it matters.”
She opened the secret room.
They copied the records.
Photographed every document.
Uploaded everything to a hidden account.
Arthur watched the progress bar.
“Thirty seconds.”
A loud crash came from upstairs.
Claire raised her gun.
Margaret whispered:
“Whoever comes through that door…”
She looked at Arthur.
“…we don't run.”
The door exploded inward.
Ryan stood there.
His face was bleeding.
