Thomas had left one final letter.
It was addressed to Rachel.
My daughter,
I don't expect forgiveness.
I only hope you understand that I loved you.
I failed to protect you.
But every time I stayed silent, I believed I was buying you another day.
I was wrong.
Silence never protects people forever.
Truth does.
Rachel cried as she finished reading.
Ethan sat beside her.
“Do you forgive him?”
She thought for a long time.
“Yes.”
Then she folded the letter.
“Not because he deserves it.”
