Chapter 18 - THE FIRST RACHEL
Evelyn gave Claire an old file.
Inside were three photographs.
Three girls.
All named Rachel.
The first was Rachel Mercer.
The second was Rachel Whitaker.
The third was Rachel Carter.
Ethan stared.
“What happened to the first two?”
Evelyn answered:
“One disappeared.”
“And the other?”
“She died.”
Rachel looked at her.
“How?”
Evelyn hesitated.
“Her death was reported as an accident.”
Rachel felt cold.
“Was it?”
“No.”
Silence filled the room.
Evelyn continued.
“The program discovered something unusual.”
“What?”
“The girls remembered things they weren't supposed to remember.”
Rachel looked toward Lily.
“Like what?”
“Faces.”
“Names.”
“Rooms.”
“Conversations.”
Evelyn looked at Lily.
“And eventually, their children began remembering too.”
Ethan frowned.
“What does Lily have to do with this?”
