Chapter 19 - LILY'S MEMORY

Lily was interviewed by a child specialist.

She didn't know why adults were suddenly asking so many questions.

But she remembered one thing clearly.

The lake house.

The night she saw Thomas.

She described a locked room.

A wall.

Photographs.

And three identical portraits of Rachel at different ages.

Then she remembered a fourth picture.

A baby.

“Who was the baby?” Claire asked.

Lily frowned.

“I don't know.”

“Was it a boy or girl?”

“A girl.”

“What was written beneath the picture?”

Lily closed her eyes.

Then whispered:

“R-04.”

Claire went still.

Rachel noticed.

“What does that mean?”

Claire looked at Alvarez.

“We need the original archive.”

“Why?”

“Because R-04 wasn't a person.”

Rachel frowned.

“What was it?”

Claire answered:

“A designation.”

“For what?”

“A replacement.”

Rachel stared at her.

“You mean there was another girl prepared to become me?”

May you like

Claire nodded.

“And she may still be alive.”
