Chapter 21 - THE HOUSE IN OREGON
Ethan wanted to go immediately.
Rachel stopped him.
“No.”
He looked at her.
“No?”
“This isn't about rescuing me anymore.”
She looked at Claire.
“We find Rebecca.”
The team traveled to Oregon.
The house was empty.
Inside, they found photographs.
Rebecca as a child.
Rebecca at school.
Rebecca working.
A normal life.
Until one photograph.
Rebecca standing beside Marlene.
Rachel stared.
“She knew.”
“Yes,” Claire said.
“Rebecca knew about me?”
“Apparently.”
A note was found beneath the photograph.
Rachel read it.
I WAS NEVER SUPPOSED TO BE YOUR ENEMY.
Then another sentence:
I KNOW WHERE MARLENE HIDES THE BOTTLE.
Ethan looked up.
“The bottle.”
The title of the mystery that had started everything suddenly made sense.
Rachel's grandmother had spent years trying to keep one object hidden.
