THE PARTY THAT ENDED A FAMILY / Chapter 20 / 40

Chapter 20 - the agreement margaret deniedMargaret was being held under house arrest in a private medical facility.

Daniel showed the police Samuel’s video, but by the time officers reached the bell tower, Rose and Samuel were gone.

Only the chair remained.

Margaret denied knowing where Samuel would take her.

Daniel placed the recording of her agreement on the table.

Her expression changed.

“You do not understand what he was.”

“I understand what you were willing to give him.”

“I was protecting Richard.”

“You told Samuel to remove Rose.”

“I wanted her frightened, not killed.”

“Is Rose alive because Samuel disobeyed you?”

Margaret looked away.

Daniel leaned closer.

“Why did Samuel return now?”

“Because Richard changed the trust.”

“The trust names Lily and Emma.”

“It names more than children.”

Margaret finally met his eyes.

“Richard placed controlling ownership of Mercer Holdings into a custodial trust. When both bloodlines were verified, the company could no longer be sold or divided without their guardians’ consent.”

Samuel wanted the company.

But Daniel saw another fear in Margaret’s face.

“What else?”

“The trust contains a morality clause.”

Nathan read the copied amendment.

Any beneficiary or guardian involved in coercion, abduction or financial fraud would lose all authority.

If the truth became public, Margaret and Samuel would lose everything.

Daniel stood.

“Then we make it public.”

Margaret caught his wrist.

“If you release it, Samuel will kill Rose.”

Daniel removed her hand.

“If we hide it, he will never stop taking children.”
