Chapter 8 - THE NAME BEHIND THE VOTE
Evan demanded to know who had cast the final vote.
The chairman slid the document toward him.
Evan looked down.
His expression changed instantly.
"No."
Claire watched him carefully.
"Who is it?"
Evan didn't answer.
"Who?"
He pushed the paper away.
"You don't understand."
"Then explain it."
Evan looked at Claire.
"That person isn't supposed to exist."
Claire's pulse quickened.
"Why?"
"Because the person died."
The room became silent.
Claire remembered the letter.
The boy was the key.
She looked at the voting record.
The signature was not Evan's.
Not his father's.
Not hers.
It belonged to someone named Daniel Bennett.
Claire stared.
"Who is Daniel Bennett?"
Evan said nothing.
The attorney looked at Claire.
"That's your husband's older brother."
Claire's eyes widened.
"Evan never told me he had a brother."
