Chapter 7 - THE BOARD MEETING
Evan arrived at Bennett Meridian expecting to regain control.
Instead, every board member was waiting.
Claire sat at the head of the table.
Evan stopped.
"What are you doing here?"
Claire didn't answer.
The chairman stood.
"Evan, sit down."
"What is this?"
"A board meeting."
"I wasn't informed."
"You were."
Evan looked at his phone.
An email.
Sent at 5:58 a.m.
He had ignored it.
Claire opened a folder.
"We reviewed the company's finances."
"You had no authority."
"I own sixty-two percent."
"You don't."
"I do."
The chairman placed a certificate on the table.
Evan stared at it.
"Where did you get that?"
"From your father."
Evan's face changed.
"My father is dead."
"Yes."
Claire leaned forward.
"And apparently he knew you better than I did."
Evan stood.
"This is absurd."
The chairman spoke calmly.
"Effective immediately, your executive authority is suspended."
Evan looked around.
"You can't do this."
Claire answered.
"We already did."
Evan's eyes moved to her.
"You planned this."
Claire looked at him.
"No."
Her voice was quiet.
"You planned this."
The board voted.
Every hand rose.
Except one.
Sabrina was not in the room.

But someone else had voted.
A person whose name Evan had not expected to see.
