Chapter 6 - THE ROOM WITHOUT WINDOWS

Claire found the hotel manager.
He initially refused to speak.
Then the attorney arrived.
The manager changed his mind.
Room 1804 had been booked under a corporate account.
Not Evan's.
Not Sabrina's.
Bennett Meridian's.
Claire stared at the records.
"Who authorized it?"
The manager showed her the signature.
Claire recognized it immediately.
Her own.
But she had never signed it.
The attorney examined the document.
"Forgery."
Claire looked at him.
"Who benefits?"
He didn't answer.
Then the manager produced security footage.
At 10:58 p.m., Evan entered the hotel.
At 11:03, Sabrina followed.
At 11:41, a third person entered.
A man wearing a dark coat.
His face wasn't visible.
At 11:49, he left.
At 11:52, the hotel lights on the entire floor briefly went out.
Claire stared at the screen.
"Can you identify him?"
"No."
"Did he speak to anyone?"
The manager shook his head.
"Only one person."
"Who?"
"Evan."
"What did they say?"
The manager looked nervous.
"Evan said, 'You promised she would never find out.'"
Claire felt the room tilt.
She turned toward the attorney.
"Find that man."
"We will."
"No."

Claire looked at him.
"I want him found before Evan knows we're looking."
