Chapter 12 - THE SECOND WILL

The attorney discovered a second will.
It had been hidden inside a safety deposit box.
The will belonged to Evan's father.
Claire read it alone.
It stated that if Evan ever attempted to remove Claire from the company, the controlling shares would automatically transfer to her.
But there was another condition.
The shares would remain protected under the name of Noah Bennett.
Claire stopped reading.
"Why?"
The attorney pointed to a paragraph.
"Noah was named as the protected beneficiary."
Claire looked at him.
"Why would Evan's father do that?"
"Maybe he knew what was coming."
"What was coming?"
"We don't know."
Then the attorney found an attached note.
A single sentence.
When Claire discovers the truth about Noah, give her the sealed envelope.
The envelope contained no explanation.
Only a key.
A small brass key.
And an address.
An old house outside the city.
Claire recognized the address.
It belonged to Daniel Bennett.
She looked at the attorney.
"He's alive."
The attorney's expression tightened.
"You think so?"
May you like
Claire closed her hand around the key.
"I know so."
