Travis was offered his badge back.

He accepted it.

But he refused a promotion.

Instead, he requested a transfer to the department's internal investigations unit.

Caroline asked why.

“Because someone has to make sure what happened to you never happens to anyone else.”

She smiled.

“You're still investigating?”

“Probably always will.”

They stood outside the courthouse.

The same courthouse where Caroline had once been treated like a criminal.

Now the doors were open.

The official investigation had cleared her name.

The false arrest was removed from her record.

Edward testified.

Margaret testified.

Eleanor testified.

And the entire conspiracy was finally exposed.

Caroline looked at Travis.

“You know what the strangest part is?”

“What?”

“If you hadn't arrested me…”

He smiled.

“I know.”

“You accidentally started the investigation.”

“Best mistake of my career.”
