Chapter 37 - LAURA’S LAST LIELaura did not deny giving the order.

She explained that Bennett discovered the program but refused to release the evidence.
He feared the scandal would destroy Hale Family Health and leave thousands without care.
Laura believed delay would allow Victor to erase everything.
She arranged for Benjamin to replace Bennett temporarily while the real Bennett helped collect proof.
Victor intercepted the operation.
Daniel died.
Benjamin was imprisoned.
Victor placed his own operative inside Bennett’s public life.
“The replacement was supposed to last three days,” Laura said.
“It lasted eighteen months.”
Bennett’s voice came through the camera.
“You never told me Harper was the key.”
“I was trying to protect her.”
“You were protecting the archive.”
Harper looked at her mother.
“Did you choose the evidence over Dad?”
Laura’s face broke.
“Yes.”
The honesty hurt more than another lie.
The timer at the safe house continued.
Seven minutes.
Harper used her new authority to unlock the river chamber.
Bennett escaped through the service route.
At the safe house, the false Daniel—Victor’s operative—moved the Laura vessels toward a transport van.
Margaret secretly activated her phone camera.
Harper recognized the road outside.
The van was heading toward Hale Family Health’s central hospital.
Victor wanted all Laura memory vessels in one location.
Rebecca understood first.
“He wants to assemble Laura without consent.”
Combining all memory sets into the original Laura’s brain could create a complete map of the master archive independent of Harper.
Laura looked terrified.
“It could kill every vessel.”
Harper ordered the network to lock the hospital.
The system refused.
Her authority did not extend to the original Hale Foundation servers.
Those remained under Bennett Hale.
The real Bennett reached a roadside access terminal.
He placed his palm against it.
Rejected.
The system did not recognize him.
Benjamin tried.
Rejected.
The false Bennett—the man who escaped by the river—still held legal and biometric control.
His current location appeared.
Hale House.
Harper contacted him.
He answered wearing Bennett’s face.
“My name is Marcus Vale,” he said.
He was not Daniel.
He was not Victor.
He was Laura’s first successful replacement operative.
And Nathaniel Vale’s older brother.
Marcus smiled.
“Your mother promised me Bennett’s life if I helped her expose Victor.”
Laura closed her eyes.
Another secret confirmed.
Marcus continued.
“She failed to mention that when this ended, she planned to erase me.”

Then he activated Hale Foundation’s emergency protocol.
Every hospital patient connected to the company became a hostage.
