Chapter 9 - The Missing Months

Richard hired one of the country's leading neurologists.

Dr. Adrian Cole reviewed Rebecca's medical records dating back ten years.

After hours of studying the files, he frowned.

"There are gaps."

Rebecca looked confused.

"What kind of gaps?"

"Entire months."

Richard leaned forward.

"Explain."

"Your medical history jumps from one hospital to another."

"Different cities."

"Different doctors."

"None of them kept complete records."

Rebecca shook her head.

"I never moved."

"You didn't."

Dr. Cole turned the monitor toward them.

"But according to these files..."

"...someone wanted it to appear that you did."

He ordered a specialized brain scan.

Hours later the results appeared.

There were signs consistent with prolonged chemical sedation several years earlier.

Rebecca stared at the images.

"What does that mean?"

The doctor's answer froze the room.

"It means someone may have erased parts of your memory."

Richard slowly stood.

"No."

The doctor nodded.

"It isn't common."

"But it is possible."

Rebecca suddenly remembered something.

A white hospital ceiling.

Bright lights.

Someone holding her hand.

A baby crying.

Then...

May you like

Nothing.

She collapsed into tears.
