Chapter 10 - Samuel's Last Message
Before Richard could question Samuel, the elderly gardener disappeared.
Police searched his small apartment.
The place had been ransacked.
Furniture overturned.
Documents burned.
Only one hidden compartment remained untouched.
Inside investigators found a cassette tape.
Richard played it.
Samuel's tired voice filled the room.
"If you're hearing this..."
"...I'm already dead."
Rebecca covered her mouth.
"I served the Lawson family for twenty-seven years."
"I failed to protect Mrs. Lawson."
"I won't fail her daughter."
"There was never only one conspiracy."
"There were two."
"They've been fighting each other for decades."
Rebecca looked at Richard.
"What does he mean?"
The recording continued.
"One group wants the Lawson fortune."
"The other wants something hidden beneath it."
The tape suddenly cut off.
Seconds later...
An explosion destroyed Samuel's apartment building.
