Chapter 11 - The Vault Beneath the Manor
The explosion at Samuel's apartment confirmed one thing.
Someone was erasing every witness.
Richard ordered the Lawson Estate sealed.
That night he finally revealed a family secret he had never intended to share.
"There is something beneath this house," he told Rebecca.
She stared at him.
"What do you mean?"
Richard led her through a forgotten corridor hidden behind the library fireplace.
At the end of the tunnel stood an enormous steel vault door.
"My grandfather built this after the war."
Rebecca looked around in disbelief.
"I've lived here my whole life."
"And I made sure you never found it."
The vault opened with a deep metallic groan.
Inside were shelves filled with journals, ledgers, photographs, and sealed boxes dating back nearly a century.
Richard walked toward an old wooden chest.
"This is what Trevor has really been searching for."
He unlocked it.
Inside was only one leather journal.
Its cover bore a single symbol Rebecca had seen before...
The same symbol engraved on the brass key from Locker 214.
Before Richard could open the journal, every light inside the vault went out.
The emergency alarm echoed through the underground chamber.
