Chapter 13 - The Truth Trevor Never Told

For the first time since the nightmare began...

Trevor asked to meet.

Against everyone's advice, Rebecca agreed.

The meeting took place inside an abandoned cathedral under heavy surveillance.

Trevor arrived alone.

No bodyguards.

No weapons.

Only exhaustion.

"You shouldn't have come," Rebecca said.

Trevor nodded.

"I know."

"You ruined my life."

"I know."

"You hit me."

His eyes lowered.

"I deserve your hatred."

Rebecca stared at him.

"Then why are you here?"

Trevor slowly removed a folded photograph from his coat.

It showed Rebecca asleep in a hospital bed years before she met him.

Standing beside her...

Was Trevor.

Several years younger.

Rebecca's breathing stopped.

"I've never seen this."

"You have."

"No."

"You just don't remember."

Rebecca stepped backward.

"What are you talking about?"

Trevor looked as though carrying the weight of years.

"We met long before our wedding."

"You were already in danger."

"I was assigned to protect you."

Rebecca's voice trembled.

"Assigned... by whom?"

Trevor looked toward the cathedral ceiling.

"I can't tell you."

"If I do..."

"They'll kill Emma."

Before Rebecca could demand answers, a sniper's bullet shattered a stained-glass window.

Trevor threw himself in front of her.

The shot struck his shoulder.

He pushed Rebecca toward the exit.

"Run!"
