Chapter 14 - The Second Journal

Trevor disappeared before Richard's team arrived.

No blood trail.

No body.

Nothing.

Days later, Emma wandered into the mansion's old music room carrying her stuffed rabbit.

"Dada."

Rebecca smiled sadly.

"He isn't here, sweetheart."

Emma shook her head.

She reached into the rabbit and pulled out something Rebecca had never noticed.

A tiny silver key.

Richard recognized it instantly.

"There can't be..."

He hurried upstairs to Rebecca's childhood bedroom.

Hidden beneath the old piano was another compartment.

Inside rested a second leather journal.

Older.

Smaller.

On the first page someone had written:

If you are reading this...

...the first journal has already been stolen.

Do not trust anyone who claims to know the complete truth.

Even this journal contains lies.

Rebecca turned the page.

Her face lost all color.

May you like

The handwriting belonged to...

Her mother.
