Chapter 7 - What Her Father Hid

Emma could not speak.
Her mother sat down.
For the first time, Diane looked exhausted rather than angry.
Diane: “Your father wasn't the man you think he was.”
Emma: “Then tell me.”
Diane: “He was investigating the company.”
Emma: “Why?”
Diane: “Money disappeared.”
Emma stared at her.
Diane: “Millions.”
Emma: “From the company?”
Diane nodded.
Diane: “Your father believed Victoria was responsible.”
Emma: “And you?”
Diane looked away.
Diane: “I believed him.”
Emma: “Then why are you protecting Tyler?”
Diane closed her eyes.
Diane: “Because Tyler was involved.”
Emma felt betrayed all over again.
Diane: “He didn't know what he was doing.”
Emma: “What did he do?”
Diane: “He accessed your father's files.”
Emma: “Why?”
Diane hesitated.
Diane: “Someone told him there was money hidden in them.”
Emma: “Who?”
Diane didn't answer.
Emma suddenly realized something.
Emma: “You.”
Diane looked up.
Emma: “You sent Tyler.”
Diane: “I wanted to know what your father had found.”
Emma: “And the crash?”
Diane shook her head.
Diane: “I didn't cause the crash.”
Emma stared at her.
Diane: “I swear.”
Then the door opened.
Detective Mason entered holding another device.
Officer Mason: “Emma, we recovered the missing nine minutes.”
Diane stood abruptly.
Diane: “You did what?”
Officer Mason looked at her.
Officer Mason: “The recording wasn't deleted.”
He placed the device on the table.
May you like
Officer Mason: “It was encrypted.”
Diane's face went pale.
