Chapter 11 - The Betrayal

Police surrounded the building.
But whoever had entered was gone.
Only a phone remained.
The phone contained one video.
Emma's father appeared on the screen.
He looked tired.
But alive.
Father: “If you're watching this, something went wrong.”
Emma could barely breathe.
Father: “Emma, I need you to listen carefully.”
He explained that someone had been stealing company money.
He believed the theft was connected to his own death.
He had created the trust to protect Emma.
He had placed evidence inside the car.
But he warned her not to trust anyone.
Not even family.
The video stopped.
Emma cried silently.
Then another file opened automatically.
Her father's voice returned.
Father: “There is one person who knows everything.”
Emma leaned closer.
Father: “That person is the reason your mother is afraid.”
The screen went black.
Detective Mason examined the metadata.
Officer Mason: “This was recorded before your father died.”
Emma: “Then why didn't he give it to me?”
Officer Mason: “Maybe he tried.”
Emma remembered the envelope.
The car.
The trust.
The camera.
Everything had been planned.
Then Diane arrived at the warehouse.
Emma stared at her.
Emma: “You knew he was recording.”
Diane nodded.
Diane: “Yes.”
Emma: “You knew he was investigating.”
Diane: “Yes.”
Emma: “And you knew about the trust.”
Diane: “Yes.”
Emma: “Why didn't you tell me?”
Diane looked at her daughter.
Diane: “Because your father asked me not to.”
Emma froze.
Emma: “Why would he ask you?”
May you like
Diane whispered:
Diane: “Because he knew I would be blamed.”
