Chapter 10 - The Warehouse
The police found Tyler two hours later.
He was standing outside an abandoned warehouse on the edge of town.
Emma was still in the hospital, but Detective Mason returned with a photograph.
The building looked abandoned.
But the inside told a different story.
There were computers.
Boxes.
Documents.
Photographs.
And dozens of recordings.
One wall contained photographs of Emma.
Emma looked at them in horror.
Pictures of her leaving college.
Entering the family business.
Talking to friends.
Walking into her father's house.
Someone had been watching her for months.
Officer Mason: “Your father installed the surveillance system.”
Emma: “Why would he watch me?”
Officer Mason: “Maybe he wasn't watching you.”
Emma looked closer.
Behind her photograph was another image.
Victoria.
Then Diane.
Then Mr. Reed.
Then Tyler.
Everyone had been monitored.
Everyone had secrets.
Detective Mason found a locked metal cabinet.
Inside was a folder marked EMMA.
Emma: “What's inside?”
Officer Mason opened it.
There were financial records.
A list of transfers.
And one handwritten note.
If Emma sees this, tell her the truth before Diane does.
Emma stared at the handwriting.
It was her father's.
Then she noticed the date.
It had been written only three days before his supposed death.
Emma whispered:
Emma: “Dad knew.”
Officer Mason: “Knew what?”
Emma pointed at the final page.
There was a single sentence.
The person who caused my death will try to blame my daughter.
