THE BLACK ENVELOPE / Chapter 6 / 15

Chapter 6 - SIX MONTHS

Six months passed.

Emma's life changed in ways she never expected.

She moved into a quiet house outside the city.

She stopped answering Julian's calls.

She began working again.

She started sleeping through the night.

And then, one morning, she discovered something that changed everything.

Two heartbeats.

The doctor smiled.

“Congratulations.”

Emma stared at the screen.

“Twins?”

The doctor nodded.

Emma cried.

Not because she finally had what Julian had said she could never have.

She cried because she had spent years believing something was wrong with her.

Garrison waited outside the examination room.

When Emma emerged, he immediately stood.

She smiled through tears.

“Two.”

He looked confused.

“Two?”

“Twins.”

For the first time in months, Garrison smiled.

Then his expression became serious.

“Emma, there's something you need to know.”

She stopped.

“What?”

“The investigation has resurfaced.”

Her smile disappeared.

“Where?”

Garrison handed her a black invitation.

Emma read it.

A private gala.

Six months after Julian had thrown her out.

Garrison was listed among the honored guests.

Emma looked at him.

“Why would they invite you?”

Garrison said nothing.

She looked again.

Then she saw the name at the bottom.

Blackwood Foundation.

Emma's pulse quickened.

“Garrison.”

“Yes?”

“Who are you?”

He looked at her.

“I'll tell you when the time is right.”

Emma frowned.

May you like

“And when is that?”

“After tonight.”
