Chapter 10 - THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH

Security locked the ballroom.
Nobody could leave.
Garrison moved through the crowd.
His eyes scanned every face.
Emma stood beside the attorney.
“Where did it go?”
The attorney shook his head.
“I don't know.”
Garrison looked at Julian.
“You knew this would happen.”
Julian snapped:
“I didn't.”
“You're lying.”
Julian stepped forward.
“You think you're some kind of hero?”
Garrison remained calm.
“No.”
“Then what are you?”
Garrison looked at him.
“Someone who remembers.”
Julian's expression changed.
Garrison continued:
“I remember the night your father came to my office.”
Emma listened.
“He brought a file.”
“What was in it?”
Garrison looked at her.
“Your name.”
Emma's breath caught.
“Why?”
“I don't know.”
“Then who does?”
Garrison turned toward Margaret.
She had gone completely silent.
Emma noticed.
“You know.”
Margaret looked away.
“Margaret.”
Nothing.
Emma stepped closer.
“What happened six years ago?”
Margaret finally spoke.
“Your husband wasn't the only person who was afraid.”
Emma frowned.
“Afraid of what?”
Margaret looked toward Garrison.
“Of him.”
Emma turned.
“Who?”
Margaret whispered:
“Blackwood.”
The room went silent.
May you like
Garrison did not react.
But Julian did.
