Chapter 19 - BELOW RUNWAY NINE

Mara ignored Jonah’s warning.
She reached her office, broke the model aircraft and found Elias’s ring inside its base.
Four numbers had been engraved along the inner surface.
They were not musical notes.
They were coordinates.
The location pointed beneath Runway Nine.
Mara entered the coordinates into the airport maintenance map.
A structure appeared under the runway that did not exist on any official plan.
PROJECT CRADLE.
Jonah joined her in the communication tunnel.
“Cradle was the first Orpheus vault,” he explained. “It stores the original identity records the system erased.”
“Including mine?”
“Possibly.”
“And Elias hid the shutdown key there?”
Jonah shook his head.
“He hid evidence.”
They reached a steel door beneath the runway.
The ring opened it.
Inside were thousands of sealed drives arranged like books in a library.
Names were printed across their cases.
Judges.
Scientists.
Diplomats.
Witnesses.
Children.
All had been erased or replaced.
At the center of the vault stood a single black server.
Theo and May’s melody played from it.
Mara entered the four missing numbers.
A video appeared.
Elias faced the camera.
“If you found this, Ward has probably taken me.”
He explained that Orpheus could not be destroyed by deleting its software. Copies would survive across hidden networks.
It needed to be exposed.
Every stolen identity.
Every official who paid for a new life.
Every criminal who crossed borders using a dead person’s face.
Mara reached toward the release command.
Jonah caught her wrist.
“Publishing this could reveal protected witnesses.”
“And hiding it protects Ward.”
Before either could act, the vault door closed.
Elias’s live voice came through the speakers.
“Mara, don’t release anything.”
A section of the wall turned transparent.
May you like
Elias stood on the other side.
He was holding the lock controls.
