Chapter 11 - THE VOICE THAT WASN’T HERS

Emergency lights glowed along the floor.
Mara and Jonah ran from the aircraft as security teams abandoned Customs Hall C, following the false order spoken in Mara’s voice.
No one questioned it.
Her voice controlled the airport’s emergency network because Quinn Aeronautics had installed the system.
Now someone else controlled her voice.
Mara called the command center.
“This is Mara Quinn. Cancel the evacuation.”
The supervisor hesitated.
“We already received authentication from you.”
“That wasn’t me.”
“The biometric voice signature was a perfect match.”
A second announcement interrupted them.
“All personnel must detain Mara Quinn immediately.”
Officers at the end of the terminal turned toward her.
Jonah grabbed her arm and pulled her through a staff door seconds before the officers reached them.
They entered an abandoned catering corridor beneath the terminal.
Lena was waiting there with Theo and May.
The children appeared frightened but unharmed.
“You brought us into a trap,” Mara said.
Lena shook her head. “I brought them to the only place Elias said could protect them.”
“Elias is alive?”
“I don’t know.”
“Then who have you been following?”
Lena looked toward the twins.
Theo quietly hummed four notes.
May continued with four more.
Jonah froze.
“That melody,” he said. “It’s the startup tone for the airport identity servers.”
Lena placed her hands on the children’s shoulders.
“Elias taught them the entire access sequence as a bedtime song.”
Mara stared at her.
“Why would he give two children the key to an airport?”
“Because children remember songs better than passwords.”
Footsteps sounded beyond the corridor door.
Mara raised a finger for silence.
May you like
The door opened.
A woman wearing Mara’s face stepped inside.
