Chapter 14 - The Mother Who Returned With a Gun
The baby's rhythm began authenticating hospital systems. Doors opened, records unlocked, and cameras followed Emma. Specialists argued for premature delivery, but Emma demanded that every option be explained to her and chose observation while they searched for the source.
Daniel revealed Helena's conditioning archive was hidden in Room 214 beneath the Marrow Center. Emma, Ortiz, Dr. Morgan, Adrian, Julia, and Margaret entered through a storm tunnel.
Inside Room 214, Evelyn held Helena at gunpoint. Evelyn wanted to destroy the child's neural key permanently, even if doing so harmed the fetus. Helena wanted to preserve and copy it.
Emma rejected both choices. Adrian used the conditioning chair first and separated Samuel's implanted memories from his own identity. The recovered archive proved that Evelyn herself had created Helena as a countermeasure against S-1, then abandoned her when conditioning failed.
Emma confronted Evelyn: Margaret had called control protection, and Evelyn had repeated the same crime in the name of resistance.
The group adapted the conditioning sequence to the fetal signal. Emma, Helena, Adrian, Dr. Morgan, and finally Evelyn repeated Samuel's command: Protect the subject before the data.
