Chapter 7 - The Surgery Daniel Tried to Stop
Emma remained partly conscious beneath anesthesia as Daniel fought his way into the operating room. He accused Evelyn of wanting the implant destroyed because it contained her commands as well as Margaret's and his own.
The truth broke every remaining alliance. Daniel admitted he had married Emma after selecting her from a file, but claimed his feelings had become real. Emma told him that smaller cruelties were not kindness and that real love could not excuse stolen consent.
S-2 chose the name Adrian Morgan and connected himself to the implant's memory. Data began transferring: drug dosages, location records, audio, and access codes belonging to Margaret, Evelyn, Daniel, and Director S-1.
S-1 remotely triggered a command to terminate Emma. Dr. Morgan cut into the scar while Daniel used his knowledge of the locking mechanism to remove the segments. Adrian's heart stopped during the transfer. Emma ordered Dr. Morgan to save him even if that endangered her and the baby.

Daniel completed the removal as Adrian's heart restarted. The baby stabilized. Then S-1 detonated a charge against the underwater glass wall.
The lake crashed into the operating room and swept everyone into darkness.
