Chapter 8 - The Woman Daniel Chose to Save
Daniel pulled Emma from the flooding room, leaving the implant behind in the water. He returned for Margaret after Emma was carried toward safety. Evelyn vanished through the broken glass and was presumed swept into the lake.
On the shore, Adrian revealed that seventy-one percent of the implant's data might remain in his neural interface. The child was not simply genetically modified; it carried a structural memory pattern based on Samuel's learning architecture. The baby had been designed as a living key.
Margaret said Daniel had been created from S-1's cells and raised as a potential heir. S-1 now wanted Emma's baby because Daniel had failed to become what he was designed to be.
Attackers drove them through the forest. Lily recognized danger when the birds became silent. They reached an abandoned ranger station and contacted Julia, who revealed she was alive and coming for her daughter.

As their van escaped, Emma saw Daniel alive near the smoke. S-1 stepped behind him and raised a gun. The shot echoed through the forest as the road carried Emma away.
