Chapter 22 - Peter’s Location

Nathan found the clue in Trent’s statement.
Parking garage.
Three months earlier.
Peter had chosen the location.
Nathan knew why.
“There was a records facility across the street.”
Daniel frowned.
“So?”
“Peter never met anywhere accidentally.”
Marlow obtained footage.
Three months earlier, Peter entered the parking structure at 7:11 p.m.
He confronted Trent.
At 7:39 he exited alone.
At 7:44 another vehicle followed.
Registered to a subsidiary of Crane Strategic Services.
The same company connected to the attack.
Marlow pulled old property records.
The records facility across the street had closed.
Its building had been purchased six months earlier.
Buyer:
Garrison Asset Storage LLC.
Rachel stared.
“Garrison.”
Twenty federal agents entered the building before dawn.
Nathan waited with Eleanor and Rachel at a nearby command center.
At 5:52 a.m. Marlow called.
“We found someone.”
Rachel stopped breathing.
“Peter?”
“Alive.”
Nathan closed his eyes.
Peter Vale had been held in a climate-controlled basement room beneath the records warehouse.
He was dehydrated.
Bruised.
Exhausted.
But alive.
The room contained a folding bed, bottled water, financial documents and a laptop.
The laptop mattered most.
Someone had forced Peter to access T.M.H.
Again and again.
He had refused to authorize one final transfer.
Eighteen million dollars.
The exact amount Marlow had been tracing.
Samuel had not merely wanted Arthur’s archive.
He needed Peter.
When Peter was stable enough to speak, his first request was not for an attorney.
It was for Rachel.
She entered the hospital room alone.
Peter looked older than she expected.
His hair was gray at the temples.
His face carried the exhaustion of a man who had spent months knowing nobody knew whether he was alive.
Rachel sat beside him.
“You knew my father.”
Peter smiled weakly.
“Yes.”
“You knew about my DNA test.”
His smile vanished.
“Yes.”
“What did it prove?”
Peter looked toward the door.
Then back at her.
“It proved Arthur was my father too.”
Rachel forgot how to breathe.
May you like
Peter’s eyes filled.
“I’m your brother.”
