Chapter 8 - The Third Betrayal
The paternity test identified the twins’ biological father three weeks later.
He was Grant Holloway, a married investor who had once attempted to purchase a controlling interest in Meridian Technologies.
Grant had met Brooke through Arthur.
For months, Brooke had maintained relationships with both men. Grant promised her money but refused to leave his wife. When Brooke became pregnant, she chose Arthur because he was easier to control and had access to Victoria’s wealth.
Brooke believed Arthur would never question the pregnancy.
She knew he had rejected the medical report. She also knew his pride would prevent him from seeking confirmation.
Her plan had almost worked.
Grant’s wife filed for divorce after the results became public. Grant denied responsibility until a court-ordered test confirmed it.
Brooke faced lawsuits over financial deception and the misuse of funds Arthur had obtained from Victoria’s company.
Arthur’s real estate partners also began asking questions.
The audit showed that he had used client deposits to cover personal expenses after the corporate card was canceled.
Within two months, his company collapsed.
Arthur sold his car and moved out of the apartment he had furnished for Brooke.
He visited Victoria once at Meridian’s headquarters.
Security called her before allowing him upstairs.
Arthur looked older. His suit no longer fit well, and the confidence that had once filled every room was gone.
“I was wrong,” he said.
Victoria waited.
“I thought you cared more about winning than about me.”
“I cared about building a life with someone I trusted.”
“I made a mistake.”
“You made decisions. Many of them.”
Arthur lowered his eyes.
“Could you ever forgive me?”
“I already have.”
