Chapter 6 - The Gold Card
On the morning of the final divorce hearing, Arthur used the Meridian corporate card to pay a private hospital bill connected to the twins’ birth.
The charge was immediately approved.
Arthur took the approval as proof that Victoria had surrendered.
He arrived at court wearing a tailored suit and carrying one of the infants. Brooke walked beside him with the second child.
Photographers waited outside.
Arthur had alerted them himself.
He wanted the public to see him as a devoted father escaping a cold, powerful wife.
Inside the courtroom, Victoria sat beside Evelyn Grant.
The divorce agreement gave Arthur a limited cash settlement based only on shared marital property. He received no company shares, no control over the house, and no continuing access to Victoria’s business accounts.
Arthur had signed because he believed he would challenge the agreement later.
He also believed Brooke’s children would strengthen his public image.
During the hearing, Evelyn submitted evidence of the unauthorized corporate spending.
Arthur’s attorney objected, but the documented transactions were undeniable.
The judge ruled that the charges would be deducted from Arthur’s settlement. The remaining amount was far smaller than Arthur expected.
His confident expression weakened.
Victoria placed the gold card on the table.
“The account was closed at noon,” she said.
Arthur glanced at the courtroom clock.
It was twelve minutes past twelve.
His phone began vibrating with messages from banks, vendors, and his business manager.
The apartment furniture, private nurse, and hospital expenses were now his personal responsibility.
Arthur leaned toward Victoria.
“You planned this.”
“No,” she replied quietly. “You did. I simply kept the receipts.”
Then the judge finalized the divorce.
