Chapter 5 - Subject 001
The red folder contained a photograph of an infant labeled Baby Girl 001 and a birth date three weeks earlier than mine. The next page listed my current identity as Sabrina Elizabeth Rollins and my original identity as restricted.
A map marked three hospitals, an orphanage, and a place called Site Zero.
An old computer typed by itself:
WELCOME HOME, SUBJECT 001.
IF YOU ARE READING THIS, THE TEST HAS BEGUN.
A printer produced tomorrow's newspaper. The front page accused me of five murders, including Detective Harris. Another photograph showed me at six beside an identical little girl. On the back: One survived. One disappeared.
I remembered a carousel and someone calling me Sarah.
A timer appeared. 29:59.
A wall opened to a clean white corridor. A wheelchair waited there. The old man seated in it looked like Detective Harris, only decades older.
