Chapter 8 - What Robert Found

After Clara's phone call ended, Robert refused to sit down.
He demanded explanations.
Marjorie tried to redirect him.
Serena tried to leave the room.
Robert stopped her.
"Nobody leaves."
The relatives stared.
For the first time in decades, Robert was no longer the quiet husband beside Marjorie.
He was angry.
He demanded every document.
Clara gave him only some of them.
"Why not all?"
"Because some of them aren't mine to disclose yet."
Robert stared at her.
"What does that mean?"
"It means there are other people involved."
Serena finally spoke.
"I don't know anything about this."
Clara looked at her.
"Then you should ask Mom why your name appears on the payment schedule."
Serena's face drained.
"I never signed anything."
"I know."
That answer confused everyone.
Clara looked at Serena.
"That's the problem."
Serena sat down.
For the first time, she looked frightened rather than offended.
Robert turned toward Marjorie.
"How long?"
Marjorie remained silent.
"How long have you been doing this?"
Still nothing.
Then Robert saw another page.
His eyes widened.
"This transfer was made before we bought the house."
Clara nodded.
"Exactly."
Robert slowly sat down.
May you like
"Then whose house is this?"
Clara did not answer.
